Kinitics Valve Actuator Secures Certification for Hazardous Locations Across North America

VANCOUVER, BC October 20, 2022 Kinitics Automation Limited, a Canadian manufacturing company developing Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) actuators for the energy industry, announces the certification of their Kinitics Valve Actuator (KVA).

The KVA38 model line is the first Kinitics product line to receive certifications for use in hazardous locations while maintaining the benchmark of being electrically powered and highly accurate.

The KVA actuator has been designated Flame-Proof according to CSA/UL 60079-0 & 60079-1 standards for operation in Class I Zone 1 areas where an explosive atmosphere is likely present during normal operation and includes lower classified Zone 2 areas where explosive gases may be present only intermittently. As part of the certification process, the KVA has been evaluated against the stringent CSA 61010-1,2 / UL 61010-1 electrical safety standards for operation as a valve actuator in non-hazardous industrial settings.

“We developed the KVA in response to the natural gas industry's need for a zero-bleed valve actuator that can fail closed in the event of a power or signal interruption. It fully complies with incoming environmental regulations and eliminates the reliance on process gas”.

Dean Pick, President of Kinitics Automation Limited.

Developed to eliminate sources of methane emissions at natural gas wellsites, the KVA can also be used to improve process control of other gaseous and fluid systems including emerging applications such as carbon capture and sequestration (CCS).
